Commissioned through the City of Portland’s Percent for Art Program, San Francisco Artist Douglas Hollis is installing a suite of five sculptures today along the south end of the park. Inspired by a historic photograph of bicyclists resting at a nearby site, these “Song Cycles” are activated by the wind. Hollis was a member of the design team for the park along with Hargreaves Associates and the local landscape architecture firm of Lango Hansen. The City’s Percent for Art Program is administered by the Regional Arts & Culture Council. Portland Parks & Recreation is overseeing the design and construction of Elizabeth Caruthers Park.
