2008-09 RACC Opportunity Grant (cycle 3)

The Opportunity Grant Program is funded by the City of Portland and is designed to provide grants to Portland-based nonprofit arts and cultural organizations to help meet special opportunities or assist organizations with emergencies that arise during the year and that are not part of the applicant’s annual budget or regular programming.

Awarded 2/18/09.

Oregon Ballet Theatre, $35,000.  The RACC Board approved this emergency award in support of their current fiscal year’s third quarter operations.

Northwest Photography Archive, $15,000. The Northwest Photography Archive's inaugural book, "Wild Beauty, Photographs of the Columbia River Gorge, 1867 - 1957" has sold out!  This book honoring the memory of the late photographer Terry Toedtemeier, the book’s co-author has won acclaim and a PNBA award.  These funds will help with the reprinting costs.

Awarded 3/25/09

Conduit, $15,000
American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) choreographer, Marylee Hardenbergh will be in Portland this October as part of the ADTA national conference. This special opportunity grant will enable Conduit to collaborate with Marylee Hardenbergh to co-create a free community-based site-specific dance performance at Pioneer Courthouse Square with Portland artists.

Friends of Chamber Music, $10,000
This emergency grant will assist Friends of Chamber Music with administrative and overhead costs while they are establishing a new business model during a 6-month transition period.

Oregon Potters Association, $6,500
Oregon Potters Association has been invited to participate in an annual exhibition of the Hokkaido Pottery Society of Sapporo, Japan in September, 2009 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sapporo Art Park, in Sapporo, Japan, Portland’s Sister City. This special opportunity grant will help OPA with the shipping of exhibition pieces and photographing the pieces for the exhibition catalog.

RASIKA – India Arts and Culture Council, $6,600
Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, an icon of Indian music will be in the US on his farewell tour in limited cities during the Summer and Fall of 2009. With the help of the this special opportunity grant RASIKA will have the honor of presenting Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna here in Portland September 2009.
