The Opportunity Grant Program is funded by the City of Portland and is designed to provide grants to Portland-based nonprofit arts and cultural organizations to help meet special opportunities or assist organizations with emergencies that arise during the year and that are not part of the applicant’s annual budget or regular programming. These grants were approved by the RACC Board on September 23, 2009:

Architecture Foundation of Oregon ($10,000).  Architecture Foundation of Oregon & PDXplore will present a forum at PNCA to stimulate public dialog, advocate expansive design thinking & urge increased bi-state leadership related to development of the Columbia River Crossing. The RACC board awarded funds to support costs associated with the design panel as part of the CRC forum.

Oregon Crusaders ($12,500). The Oregon Crusaders has been serving Portland-area youth brass, percussion and colorguard performers for 9 years.  In August, 70 performers traveled to Indianapolis to participate in the drum corps championships, but fundraising efforts in 2009 were impacted by the economic situation.  The Opportunity Grant funds will be applied to debt related to the 2009 National Bus Tour and outstanding invoices, to help address the deficit.

Total for Opportunity Grants (cycle 1): $22,500
