Learn to convey the ideas behind your work with a compelling and clear artist statement. Participants will discuss the elements needed to write a successful artist statement that describes their work and ideas.

Instructor: Chas Bowie
Bio: Chas Bowie is a Portland-based arts writer. Formerly the arts editor of the Portland Mercury and the assistant director of Quality Pictures Contemporary Art, he is now a critic at the Oregonian and a contributor to numerous art and culture publications. Bowie?s essays and reviews about contemporary art have appeared in Art Papers; Anthem; Textile: The Journal of Cloth and Culture; Glasstire: Texas Visual Art Online; 1000 Words Photography Magazine; X-TRA Contemporary Art Journal; Res; SPOT: The Journal of the Houston Center for Photography; Portland Monthly; and The Stranger. Bowie currently teaches Art and Design in Contemporary Society at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, in addition to Art Criticism and Journalism.
