Why do humans create art? Why do they stop? What can artists learn from scientists? If creativity is a mystery, how can an artist manipulate it? Through a mix of lecture, individual exercises and group activities, this workshop will explore exactly what occurs during the creative process. By understanding the “mechanics” of creativity, students will learn the cognitive tools necessary to master the challenges associated with each of the seven stages. Through stimulating and provocative questions, students will increase awareness of their own unique practice. Topics include: When to control and when to let go, embracing risk and uncertainty, tricks to increase innovative thinking, identifying and overcoming common creative blocks, finding the right mix of inspiration and discipline, separating self from product, maintaining passion, and producing work that is more meaningful and satisfying. NOTE: This is a highly interactive non-studio workshop. Bring writing materials and be prepared to have fun while learning! No prerequisite. Location: Fibers Classroom 9:00AM-3:00PM
