Columbia Gorge Arts in Education (CGAIE) announces that applications are now being accepted for the 2010-2012 Artist in Residence program.

The Artist in Residence Program places professional artists, performers and writers in a wide variety of educational settings. Through week-long projects or special programs, artists teach their discipline through age-appropriate language and techniques to students in grades K-12.

Gorge area schools apply for residencies by choosing artists from the CGAIE Program Guide, which describes each artist’s discipline and experience as well as the types of residencies each has to offer. Artists are paid a flat rate for standard week-long residencies (typically 20 hours of classroom time), plus pre-planning time, lesson planning and teacher training meetings and some travel mileage. Supply costs are negotiated separately for each residency between artists and school officials, and are paid by the schools. Artists may also negotiate to spend additional time with schools before and/or after residencies, with such time being paid at an hourly rate.

Columbia Gorge Arts in Education is an Oregon-based program offering artist residencies to K-12 schools in Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, Skamania and Klickitat Counties. Our mission is to enhance every child’s education through performing, visual, and literary arts in the schools.

To qualify for the CGAIE Artist Roster, you must be a professional artist currently working within your discipline who can make a strong commitment of time and effort to the Artist in Residence Program. More information and applications are available on the CGAIE Website.
