Curator of European Art sought by Portland Art Museum

The Portland Art Museum invites applications for the Janet and Richard Geary Curator of European Art. Reporting to the Chief Curator, the Curator of European Art is responsible for the care, research, exhibition, growth and custody of paintings, drawings, and sculpture before 1850 in the European Collection belonging to or on loan to the Portland Art Museum.
This role is responsible for developing temporary exhibitions, working on related programs, and writing and speaking about European art. The Curator supervises presentation of all traveling exhibitions of European art before 1850 scheduled by the Portland Art Museum. Successful applicants will possess a M.A. or PhD in Art History (PhD preferred), and a minimum of 5 years of related Museum work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of one European language required, reading two or more preferred; and a wide knowledge of the history of European Art; with demonstrated expertise in some phase of European art.
