Need Volunteer Artists to Teach Art Classes to Day Laborers. VOZ Workers’ Rights Education Project is looking for volunteers to teach their Art Classes. These classes will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Workers’ Center and can be scheduled to fit the artists availability; once a week and anytime between 8am and 2pm. Sidewalk Chalk Artist Wanted.
The Wilson Area Arts Council (WAAC) is once again sponsoring the Wilson Cluster Chalk Art Festival on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Hillsdale Farmers Market. Talented chalk artists are needed who could provide tips and demonstrations during the event. Especially looking for 3D chalk artists. Just imagine artists of all ages - children, teens, adults and families and friends - working to create their own sidewalk artwork. Intern sought by Zine Summer Camp 2009 (7/7-25). The mission of IPRC's Summer Camp is to educate and inspire children about independent publishing and promote creativity by providing hands-on educational activities and creative projects in a fun and safe learning environment. Activities include: field trips, fun and educational games, visiting artists, and of course lots of projects! Project Youth Documentary Intern sought by Film Action Oregon. Film Action Oregon sponsors Project Youth Doc (PYD), an intensive, four-week-long documentary film production program for teens ages 13-16. PYD now offers three sessions, serving approximately 50 students in all each summer, more than half of whom attend the program free of charge. The Project Youth Doc Internship will provide a unique opportunity for individuals interested in arts education to gain valuable classroom experience working alongside talented arts educators. 7/16 Benefit for Literary Arts' Writers in the Schools as Tin House Celebrates its 10th Anniversay. Founded in 1999 by longtime Oregon publisher, Win McCormack, Tin House has for the past decade been a quiet force in the literary world, with its headquarters in the distinctive zinc-sided house in NW Portland. In its 40 issues it has been privileged to print some of our nation's finest fiction writers and poets.This event will celebrate Tin House's 10th Anniversary by gathering some of this country's most exciting established and emerging writers who've been published by the magazine in the past decade. The Penny Jam offers a weekly video podcast filmed in Portland Oregon. In each episode they film a different band playing in an unconventional performance space in the Portland area, helping music escape from the often-drab environs of dark, neon, concert venues. They are interested in documenting as wide a variety of musical styles as possible, including indie rock, bluegrass, electronic, hip-hop, jazz etc, etc.

Disjecta presents CORE Radio, a platform for community voices to offer their perspective on the pressing cultural issues facing Portland. Here's how it works: Disjecta asks a question. You send them your proposal for how you would
tackle the question(s) posed. Be tactful, be clever, be honest, be yourself. They then select 2-3 people to participate in creating an audio map by recording themselves, their friends, to offer perspective on the topic at hand. They provide the equipment and

Artists in the Workforce 1990-2005 (NEA). This report uses United States census occupation data to analyze artists’ demographic and employment patterns. During the 1990s and the first few years of the 21st century, the number of artists grew at about the same pace as the U.S. labor force, keeping the proportion of artists at 1.4 percent of the labor force. This development follows two decades of dramatic growth—the number of artists more than doubled between 1970 and 1990, growing from less than 1 percent of the labor force to 1.4 percent.

Freelancers Union. By representing independent workers as a group, Freelancers Union can negotiate favorable insurance rates and provide a social safety net.
