Profile Theatre is seeking an Artistic Director

Profile Theatre is celebrating its 15th Anniversary as a professional theatre. Our mission is to
highlight the role of the playwright by presenting the work of a single author each season. Profile
is one of only two theatres in the country with this unique mission. Over the last 14 years, our
featured playwrights have included: Arthur Kopit, Tennessee Williams, Constance Congdon,
Arthur Miller, Harold Pinter, Edward Albee, Romulus Linney, Terrence McNally, Lanford
Wilson, Wendy Wasserstein, John Guare, Neil Simon, Horton Foote and Lee Blessing. Profile
has had great success in bringing a number of these playwrights to Portland to speak to
audiences, conduct workshops in playwriting, develop new material and even co-direct a world
premiere.

Key Responsibilities
One of three key staff positions, the Artistic Director is responsible for the overarching artistic
management of the company and will curate each season of plays; including selecting the
playwright, selecting plays and designing the season’s mix of programs. The Artistic Director
will hire and oversee the work of all creative staff, actors, directors and designers. As Co-CEO
of the organization, the Artistic Director will also play a significant role in fundraising,
budgeting, and the representing the company’s artistic presence in the community.

Preferred Experience
The ideal candidate for this position will have a history of previous employment in non-profit
theatre with an emphasis on directing. Experience working directly with playwrights on
developing or revising plays is strongly preferred. Profile Theatre is a text-based theatre
company. The ideal candidate will have a strong literary background, strong writing skills and a
strong commitment to putting the playwright first.

Benefits and Compensation
Profile Theatre is a mid-sized non-profit arts organization with limited financial resources. The
compensation for this salaried position will be $40,000. Competitive benefits.
