Submissions are being sought for three artistically designed benches to be installed within the core downtown area as a feature of the 20th Annual Chalk Art Festival on September 18, 2010. The goal of the Forest Grove Public Arts Commission, in partnership with other city entities, is to create and promote a pedestrian friendly atmosphere, attract people to the downtown area, and contribute to the quality and identity of the City. In 2008 the Public Arts Commission received funds for public art to be permanently placed within the city limits of Forest Grove. The pieces chosen as a result of this Call for Art will have the honor of being the inaugural work in an ambitious and worthwhile civic endeavor. Criteria: The selection committee will be comprised of a panel of community artists, leaders and members of the Forest Grove Public Arts Commission. The committee will make their selection based on those pieces that:
•Exemplify high standards of creativity, quality, innovation and professionalism
•Contribute to the identity and viability of the Forest Grove Community.
•Respect the architecture, character and design of the Historic Downtown Forest Grove area
•Use the appropriate integration of art & function in terms of scale, form, content and materials
Budget: $4,000 per bench, inclusive of shipping. The City of Forest Grove will accept responsibility for the cost of installation.
