From July 17, 2010 through November 14, 2010, Pittock Mansion will feature the juried art exhibit Uncertain Times: Contemporary Art Views on the Fate of the Newspaper. Henry Pittock made his fortune in the newspaper business, turning The Oregonian into a thriving publication and Portland’s premier source of news. Newspapers today face an uncertain future, as television and the Internet erode print media’s traditional customer base. This exhibit interprets the challenges that newspapers face today through paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and multimedia art. Pittock Mansion is currently seeking entries for Uncertain Times: Contemporary Art Views on the Fate of the Newspaper.
Artists may submit up to five works to this juried exhibit with the understanding that not all may be accepted. There is $15 fee per registration (a registration includes up to five works of art). Separate, unconnected pieces may not be entered as one unit. Works must relate to the above-stated theme. All work must be original in concept and executed by the artist. Jurors include Laura Valenti, Newspace Center for Photography, and Patti Larkin, Pittock Mansion.
