Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries (FVRLibraries) is seeking proposals for a large-scale public art piece for the interior of Cascade Park Community Library. This piece or series will be wall or ceiling mounted, fit within a 59 foot by 4 foot 9 inch space, and illustrate one or more of these themes: Reading/ Books, Community/People, Forest/Trees, and Diversity/Inclusion.
Open to applicants who live or work within FVRL’s service area of Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania and Klickitat Counties.
Where: Art will be on an inside wall above shelving, and will be visible from the majority of the library. You may come view the space during Cascade Park Community Library’s open hours.
Size: Available space is 59 feet wide by 4 feet 9 inches high. Art should not be more than 6 inches deep/thick. (Note: The ceiling slopes on this wall–with height varying from 69” on the left side to 84” on right over a 60-foot wide area.)
Weight: Finished product should not exceed reasonable limits for wall-hung art.
Portable: The art must be moveable and ready to hang. This could be one large flexible/rollable piece, a series of canvases/panels (e.g. four 96×48″ wooden panels or three sets of three 36×48″ canvases), or multiple pieces of any shape(s) that work together.
Medium: Eligible materials include painting, photography, printed graphic design, fiber/textile arts, wood or metal wall art, mosaics, or mixed media. No power is available at the location.
Longevity: Selected artwork will hang at Cascade Park Community Library for a minimum of 5 years, though our intention is for the artwork to hang for years to come. Artwork should be designed to hold up over time, both physically and in content.
Themes should include one or more of: Reading/Books, Community/People, Forest/Trees, and Diversity/Inclusion. Illustration of theme(s) can be literal or abstract.
Budget: Chosen artist will receive $10,000. The amount is all-inclusive and meant to cover the artist’s time, materials, installation hardware, travel, and any other expenses.
