Centrum’s Artist Residency Program was established in 1980 as a resource for artists and creative thinkers of all genres. Residency projects can be focused on a single genre or be a multidisciplinary undertaking, and might be the creative work of an individual or encompass the collaborative work of a group. In partnership with the Fort Worden PDA, Centrum is able to offer an opportunity to selected artists to live and work in this magnificent setting at a significantly reduced cost.
Centrum is located within Fort Worden State Park in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. Noted for its strong support of arts and culture, Port Townsend is an ideal place for the kind of self-directed retreats enjoyed by successful residency applicants.
Centrum residencies are by application only and reviewed by a committee of Centrum staff and advisors. The committee looks for evidence of a commitment to a creative practice and the potential impact that a residency at Centrum might have. All disciplines and levels of artists are accepted. Writers, visual artists, musicians, performers, dancers, theater groups, scholars, curators, arts professionals, and interdisciplinary thinkers are all encouraged to apply.
$450 per week; $50-$75 additional fee per week for studio space
For residencies between August-December 2020, the application window is November 5, 2019-February 9, 2020. Artists will be notified by March 30.
