Communications & Content Associate

Design Museum Everywhere is looking for a digital savvy storyteller to be a full-time Communications & Content Associate to manage our strategic communications and print and digital content about design, social change, and innovation. The Communications & Content Associate will be responsible for increasing public awareness of the museum and our work, growing our audiences, and linking these efforts to revenue opportunities in partnership with the rest of the staff and in alignment with our mission. This position will also coordinate the curation, editing, and production of our quarterly print publication, Design Museum Magazine, in partnership with guest editors and the Executive Director. The position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for advancing equity in design, visual storytelling, social media, and the museum’s mission to inspire social change through the transformative power of design.

Core Responsibilities:

Promote museum programs and events, including creating events on Eventbrite, putting content on our website, sending invitations to partners, and following up with attendees.
Develop compelling content for social media, the e-newsletter, and the website.
Monitor, engage, and post on the museum’s social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook).
Coordinate curation, editing, and production of our quarterly print publication, Design Museum Magazine, including soliciting contributors, writing short pieces, and gathering ideas from our community, in partnership with Executive Director and guest editors.
Create paid and earned media campaigns (social media, retargeting, etc.), and monitor and adapt as necessary.
Follow urgent issues and trends across the design fields and the museum’s impact areas and work with the Executive Director to draft statements and/or connect our community to museum resources as applicable.
Manage content calendar, working closely with staff on their programmatic updates, to ensure a strategic distribution of content and marketing resources.
Write and post blog posts, event listings, and program announcements on the museum’s website using WordPress.
Help to ensure clear visual messaging/branding on website and collateral material.
Identity and reach out to organizations to be community partners.
Draft and send press releases when necessary; maintain a press list.

Passion for nonprofit digital communications, content, and design.
At least 2 years of related experience, and a demonstrated ability to adapt writing styles to fit different audiences and platforms.
A demonstrated commitment to anti-racist practices in marketing, communications, and storytelling.
Knowledgeable about social media best practices, particularly in the arts and/or nonprofit sectors.
Experience with the following tools/processes: Google Docs, Social Media channels (Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter), Asana, Notion.
Collaborative spirit, and experience working across departments and with external stakeholders and community members.

Full-time: Hours are generally 9-5pm ET Monday-Thursday with Flexible Fridays.
Remote-first position, but candidates will be expected to attend monthly in-person events, occasional in-person meetings, and a board/staff retreat for one week each year.
Open to candidates within commuting distance to either Boston, MA or Portland, OR.
Salary range: $40,000-$43,000/year
