The new Mobile DIY Documentary class will guide you through the creation of a short nonfiction film using only your mobile phone!
Students of all experience levels are welcome!
DIY films can be about anything! Walk the viewer through your new quarantine hobby or protest routine, tell the story of your grandmother through archival material and remote interviews, show us the way the trees in your garden grow, or film what’s going on out in the world—from a safe distance!
In past [non-mobile] D.I.Y. Documentary classes, students have produced films on everything from hobo nickels to drive-in theaters to the uncovering of repressed memories and the discovery of lost biological parents.
You provide the story, we’ll provide technical support and instruction with an emphasis on effective storytelling.
Students will work outside of class to shoot and edit their films. In these unprecedented times, we encourage students to lean into the tools you have available, to make conscious decisions about the look and feel of your film with those tools in mind, and to take pride in the restrictions!
Finished films will screen at a live virtual premiere! Invite your friends and family to attend!
August 24 – September 28, 6-8pm
Final Showcase will premiere online, October 9
