From the Ground UP’s: Young Women’s Residency Program

What: From the Ground UP is NOW accepting applications for their Young Womens Residency Program. This program will give participants the opportunity to train with several professional female artists from around the state in several different mediums within the world of the performing arts. Classes will include Improv, Movement for the Performer, Songwriting, Storytelling and Design. Utilizing these new found skills each resident, under the mentorship of the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, will create and perform a solo piece in a public performance at the end of the program.
*This program will also include a trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and attending other local arts events, dance, theater, music, comedy that are created and performed by women.
Note the program has a value of $2,500 but all selected residence will get to participate at a highly reduced rate thanks to support from Ronni Lacroute.

Where: New Expressive Works , 810 SE Belmont St. Portland Or, 97232

When: Weekly meetings begin Sunday January 12th Weekly Meetings from 3pm-7pm until the public performance end of May or beginning of June, dates TBA .

Who: Anyone who identifies as female or non-binary and is between the ages of 18-25 yrs old. This program is open to anyone interested who meets the above qualifications. NO EXPERIENCE is necessary and you DO NOT need to be a ‘actor/actress to participate. If you are interested in exploring the world of storytelling and the performing arts and would like to share your story and worldview with your community this program is for YOU!

Why: This program aims to give young women in the Portland community the opportunity to craft and perform solo performance pieces. Performance themes will center on participants lived experiences and the social themes surrounding young women. This program is in response to the particular need to amplify young female voices in our social climate.
