The Oregon Bach Festival is an acclaimed music performance series presented by the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, with representation from the community through the advisory Board of Directors. The Grammy Award-winning Oregon Bach Festival is recognized nationally and internationally as a premier performing arts organization which annually presents and produces approximately 50 performances of major choral-orchestral works, instrumental and chamber concerts, solo recitals, lectures, a children’s series, master classes for professional musicians, an 11-day intensive study and choral performance program (a.k.a. Stangeland Family Youth Choral Academy) for high school-aged singers from across the U.S. and a daily classical music program for K-5 students. The administrative offices of the Festival operate year-round for the purpose of planning, organizing, administering and marketing each year’s program, which includes the hiring and management of about 350 artists. Other major administrative areas include securing funds through private and business donations and public and private sector grants, the business management of the organization (annual budget of approx. $2.7 million) and publicizing, marketing and promoting the Festival.
The purpose of this position is to plan, develop and implement all communication, marketing strategies, and public relations for the Oregon Bach Festival, and related presentations throughout the year, Chamber Music@Beall, and other signature music series and ticketed events from the School of Music and Dance. Develop and analyze earned income and marketing expense budgets. Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software platforms to analyze ticket sales data and increase ticket sales, develop and implement dynamic ticket pricing strategies, identify and target key audience segments, maintain comprehensive audience database, and support development personnel with data-driven insights. Consult with senior staff at the Oregon Bach Festival and the School of Music and Dance on issues of organizational mission and policy. Supervise student workers and temporary personnel. This position reports directly to the Director of Communications at the School of Music and Dance and Oregon Bach Festival Leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Five years of proven experience with communications, public relations, marketing strategies, and social media with successively high levels of achievement.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; excellent oral & written communication skills.
• Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with university staff, faculty, and others.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers with computer software including Excel, design, web applications, page layout, email marketing tools.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Working knowledge and experience utilizing the digital world, internet, and prevalent social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
• Master’s degree in arts/non-profit management, communications, marketing or journalism.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful event ticket sales strategies.
• Experience working in a higher education or arts non-profit organization environment.
