Are you a passionate choral director looking for an inspiring part-time opportunity? The Eugene
Gleemen, a beloved men’s chorus celebrating nearly a century of song, is seeking a
talented Musical Director to lead us starting in September 2026 for our 2026-2027 season.
About The Eugene Gleemen: For 100 years, we’ve brought joy to the Eugene community
through music. We’re a vibrant, non-audition community chorus of roughly 50 members,
dedicated to creating memorable musical experiences. Our diverse repertoire spans classical
pieces, traditional folk, Broadway hits, pop favorites, holiday carols, and contemporary works,
performed both accompanied and a cappella.
Our season runs from September to May, with engaging Tuesday evening rehearsals. We
perform two major concerts annually (Fall and Spring), and often bring our music to retirement
communities, University of Oregon athletic events (singing the national anthem!), and even
travel for performances in other cities.
You’ll work closely with an active and supportive Board of Directors committed to the Gleemen’s
success. We also have a smaller ensemble drawn from the main chorus that performs.
What We’re Looking For: We need an experienced, positive, and encouraging choral director
with strong communication skills. You’ll be instrumental in helping our members develop their
vocal technique, harmony, and blend, making every rehearsal and performance an enjoyable
and rewarding experience. If you’re a patient and effective teacher who can inspire a diverse
group of singers, we want to hear from you!
Your Role Will Include:
• Leading Music: Planning and conducting engaging weekly rehearsals and dynamic
concerts.
• Artistic Vision: Collaborating with our music committee to select exciting repertoire and
develop concert themes.
• Member Support: Arranging for online rehearsal tracks to support our members’
practice.
• Community Engagement: Helping to promote our concerts and appearances within the
community.
• Strategic Partnership: Participating in Board of Directors meetings and assisting with
budget development and fundraising initiatives.
Compensation: We offer a negotiable annual salary (recently around $10,000), with additional
compensation for activities like preparing rehearsal tracks and conducting special events.
