In this series students will learn to approach a painting with the goal of creating a narrative using objects and settings from their everyday lives. We will learn to explore our surroundings for objects to drive our story and to assemble them into compelling compositions. We will learn to add human elements by posing ourselves or friends or by sourcing old photographs. We will each create a finished painting in three sessions along with as many preparatory sketches, photos and exercises as we like along the way. Lacey will demonstrate high and low tech ways to transfer an image, plan compositions, and create a story. During the first session we will focus on gathering story elements and finding inspiration. We will do some sketching exercises and preparatory drawing. In the second class we will create a story and plan a composition. In the final session we will put it all together, finishing our paintings and sharing our stories.
