RACC Opportunity: Call for Artists Night Lights 2018-2019

Deadline July 26, 2018

Night Lights is a monthly public art event that promotes digital media, urban intervention, and technological innovation through site-specific outdoor art experiences.
This is a call for five artists or art collectives to each receive a $1,000 honorarium.

This call is open to anyone living in Oregon and southern Washington.

Night Lights is seeking artists and artist collectives to submit proposals of new or recently developed works for the 2018-2019 season. Applications that directly respond to the architecture and public environment, are short form, non-narrative, and suitable for a general audience will take precedence. Artist selections will be made through an equity and inclusion focus.
See RACC’s Equity & Inclusion statement for more information.

On the First Thursdays of October through March, one selected artist or artist group will showcase their work each month on the North Wall of the Regional Arts & Culture Council’s offices, located in the General Automotive Building, near the intersection of NW Glisan and NW Park Avenue in Portland, Oregon. If possible, please visit the site before submitting your proposal.

Currently in its fourth year, past projects have included large-scale media projections, live multi-disciplinary performances and collective screenings by students and professionals.

Selected artists will present their work after dusk for approximately 2 to 3 hours, during one of the first Thursday evenings of October, November, December, February and March.

Any group or individual selected to participate will receive an honorarium of $1,000 at the completion of their presentation. All applications will be reviewed by a panel of experienced digital media artists and professionals.

When considering this opportunity, please take into account that this is an outdoor event, lasting up to 3 hours in the winter evenings. Portland’s typical winter weather conditions should be taken into consideration when writing your proposal. Winners will be announced in mid-August.

Provided Equipment

The following list of equipment will be available for the night of each presentation.  (Any additional equipment needed must be provided by the artist.)
