The City of Forest Grove’s Public Arts Commission is requesting artist submissions of up to three works of art per artist for one sculpture to be placed in the City of Forest Grove. Installation will occur in the fall 2023/spring 2024. The Public Arts Commission looks forward to receiving proposals from interested artists.

One work of art will be selected. The project budget will not exceed $12,000.

The artwork will be displayed on a 4 x 4’ concrete base or plinth. The selected artist will be notified of their anchoring template. Anchor method will be anchor bolts. The City will provide the concrete bases and anchor bolts.

• Must be an original, one-of-a-kind artwork.

• Artwork, finished and installed, must not exceed 10’ high, and must fit and be held by the base provided, no wider than 4’ X 4’.

● Proposed artwork must be of an appropriate nature for general public viewing and will be considered City speech.

● Proposed artwork will be evaluated on the strength of the artist concept and demonstrated technical skills and experience.

• Proposed artwork will be appropriate to the area architecture, neighborhood, geographic, sociocultural and historic setting in scale and expression. The Commission will have the right to request changes to proposed artwork, if necessary.
● Must be structurally sound. This sculpture will be placed in a public area and should be as resistant as possible to vandalism and resistant to extreme weather conditions.

● Materials will be used that ensure durability and longevity and that are appropriate for the climate. Sustainable and ethically sourced materials will be given preference.

● Inclusion of an “Artwork Maintenance Plan” describing the materials and processes used (so that repairs may be made) and a schedule of required maintenance (such as the replacement of an anti-ultraviolet coating and the repair of any vandalism) is required and will be provided by the artist.

• Diversity in submissions is encouraged in keeping with the City’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
