The MusraraMix Festival is an international multidisciplinary event that takes place in the borderline neighbourhood of Musrara, initiated and produced by the Musrara, Naggar School of Art and Society. The festival is a hub of artistic and social happenings, embodying the political and cultural essence of Jerusalem and Israel. Every year the festival is based around one theme. The 20th edition of the festival will take place from June 2nd till June 4th, 2020.
This year at MusraraMix Festival we will revolve around the theme of “Neo- Shamanism” and examine the desire to reach “beyond” through a directed awareness change, from a shamanistic perspective. The shaman is the “walker between the worlds” – he possesses the ability, acquired in a long initiation process, to shift away from the known reality and through a “trance” venture beyond familiar existence. The cosmological experience conjured by the shaman is connected to the environment, to animals, to communication and the healing of the soul of the individual and of society.
The belief in neo-shamanic practices is still on the fringes of Western culture, but prejudice seems to be gradually disappearing while scientific research turns to examine these practices and prove their merit. It is hard to formulate a theory about the unknown, but in a digital age of advanced robotics, virtual culture, and social media, notions such as holism and synergy are particularly pertinent and meaningful to information and the different ways in which it is used.
We are pleased to invite students from international art academies to submit video work for the student film program dealing with the annual theme of the festival – “Neo-Shamanism”. The program will be exhibited during the festival.
From the selected works, the Musrara School Judging Committee will select the top two films which will win the awards below:
