OPEN CALL for artists looking for gallery representation and solo/group exhibition opportunities in Portland, OR.

Well Well Projects is currently accepting applications for its first open call for new members!

Applications will be reviewed for gallery representation and exhibition opportunities for our upcoming 18-month cycle, which runs from July 2023 through December 2024. If selected, the artist will get one calendar month in our exhibition cycle to use for an exhibition. Member benefits also include opportunities to exhibit work in small group exhibitions at Well Well, participate in gallery exhibition exchanges with other artist cooperative galleries, be featured on Well Well’s website and social media and have professional photo documentation of your exhibition.

New member exhibition months will be how we begin this next cycle. If you are offered a Well Well Projects membership, you should be ready to exhibit in our space as early as July 2023. Therefore, we are looking for applications that showcase recent work that is ready to show.

Before applying, please read through our membership benefits and responsibilities outlined below. Please be sure you are able to fully commit to the membership responsibilities before applying to this opportunity.

About Well Well Projects
Well Well Projects is an art gallery established in January 2021. Currently, we are a collective of 12 member artists from the greater Portland region. Well Well opened its doors with the intent of giving artists gallery representation and enriching their home base in Oregon Contemporary. We aim for this project to serve as a launchpad for artists while open calls and other opportunities seek to reach a wider audience that expands outside the Pacific Northwest region. We host opening receptions for new exhibitions on the first Saturday of each month.

What Members Gain From Being Part of Well Well Projects
• Each Well Well member has the gallery for an entire month on a rotating 18 month cycle. The artist has full control of how they utilize the gallery space. For example, members can have a solo show, curate a two person or group show, or design something more experimental.
• Well Well is more than a gallery–it is also a project space and a community of artists. Members are encouraged to plan and participate in: workshops, collaborations, openings, gallery talks, calls for shows, member exhibition exchanges, parties, fundraisers, member hangouts, and much more.
• Well Well members have the freedom to show challenging, non-commercial work including but not limited to installations, performances, video and beyond.
• Well Well members retain 100% from any sale of work from their exhibition.
• Well Well is located in a beautiful, exhibition ready gallery space in the Oregon Contemporary arts complex. Opening and closing events are scheduled to coincide with events hosted at the neighboring art spaces to maximize exhibition visibility.
• Well Well members will have their exhibitions professionally documented, and high quality images of their work will be shared on our website and social media. Members will be given their high-res edited images for personal use.
• Well Well Projects operates with a core team of 6 directors who handle fundamental operations such as finances, communications, social media, press, web design and maintenance, grant writing and other needs as they arise. We structure our operations this way so the rest of our members need only to focus on creating amazing work and exhibitions. Otherwise, members may contribute on a voluntary basis as their availability allows.

What We Are Looking For In Members
A membership with Well Well is well worth it! Here are the things you will be committing to:
• Commit to being a Well Well member for at least one cycle. When members join, they commit to a full 18-month cycle.
• Come to First Saturday openings to support the current Well Well show. As a member, we want you to come to exhibition openings to help support the current member(s) show. Bring friends! All members will benefit from engaging our respective communities. Members should also regularly attend member-lead workshops, group exhibitions and pop-up events.
• Gallery sit for 5-hour shifts. Each member commits to keeping the gallery open during open hours Sat-Sun 12-5pm for approximately 11 shifts throughout the 18-month exhibition cycle. Opening and closing on time is essential. Members may trade gallery sitting weekends. Members unable to sit for scheduled days/weekends must arrange in advance and provide a paid substitute.
• Be responsible with your gallery month. Install must be complete by First Saturday at 5pm for the opening reception. If installation is completed early, members may open the exhibition that Saturday from 12-5pm. The exhibition must remain up and open to the public for the entirety of your month. After open gallery hours on the last Sunday at 5pm when the exhibition is complete, members must deinstall in the allowed timeframe and return the gallery to its original state (spackle, sand, paint, sweep, and remove door vinyl).
• Pay a $90 refundable deposit, and $90 monthly membership dues. This is how we cover rent, insurance, taxes, and additional programming.
