WOOD CARVING 101 WITH KARL BIRKY 1/18-2/22

At the Chehalem Cultural Center: Spend six weeks with artist Karl Birky exploring the world of Wood Carving and all the basics to get you started on creating beautiful pieces.

In this six week series you will cover carving knives, working with wood blanks, discussing the “grain” of the wood, types of wood to work with, shaping and moving with the wood, focusing on expanding your connection to the wood & success in several different projects.

Meet our Instructor Karl Birky **Recently showcased in the Yamhill Artists Showcase.

Karl is a retired civil engineer and lives in Newberg, Oregon with his wife Ginny. He enjoys woodworking, hiking, reading, mushroom hunting and beekeeping. He began wood carving in 1998 and has published several articles in Chip Chats, a national wood carvers magazine. He often incorporates carving in pieces that are turned on a lathe.

PLEASE NOTE:

Masks are required. Class will run with a minimum of 4 students.

This class is being kept at a max of 12 students to keep with OHA guidelines for social distancing within spaces. There are no exceptions.
