ASSISTANT FILM FESTIVAL DIRECTOR POSITION

Position Start: Sept 3, 2024 (Contract renews annually)

Hours per week: 10 hrs. Average + Festival Season (Jan-March)

Pay Rate: 700 hours at $20/hr

Location:  Remote/On-Site during Festival and Committee Events

Position Overview: Cascade Festival of African Films is seeking an Assistant Festival Director with a passion for community and a strong interest in African Film. This position assists with managing  programs and collaboratively oversee the operations of the festival preparations. This role includes presenting the African Film Festival alongside colleagues and committee members, with a focus on promoting access and aligning with the festival’s mission. We are looking for a dynamic and organized individual capable of managing multiple responsibilities related to the planning, execution, and promotion of the film festival. The ideal candidate will ensure a seamless and engaging experience for all participants.

 

Essential Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and assist with grant opportunities, coordinating submissions with the PCC Foundation.

  • Assist in facilitating CFAF bi-monthly committee meetings, annual retreat, and debrief meetings, and attend weekly 1-hour meetings with the Festival Director.

  • Assist with communications and procurement processes with film distributors.

  • Support the Festival Director in selecting visiting directors, acquiring talent performers, coordinating after-film speakers, and moderating events.

  • Assist in developing marketing strategies, create and execute engaging social media content, and manage a social media calendar. Attend selected screenings to update content, engage with followers, respond to inquiries, and report on key metrics.

  • Assist with distributing festival sponsorship benefits, arranging promotional materials, managing reserved seating, collecting branding materials, updating contact information, and thanking sponsors post-festival.

  • Participate in local summer community outreach events and support Family Fest, PCC students, and youth-centered special engagement opportunities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three or more years of relevant experience, with the creative sector, non profit setting

  • A strong interest in African and African Diaspora Film, community, and multilingual arts culture.

  • Desire to strengthen relationships between CFAF and the community

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, with experience working with diverse communities.

  • Proven success in collaborative team environments, promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness.

  • Strong leadership, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with a variety of creative, administrative, and task management apps

  • Exceptional planning, organization, time-management skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with ability to oversee projects while having an eye on festival objectives

  • Ability to complete necessary Portland Community College background check and onboarding process
