The Oregon Society of Artists is seeking passionate and experienced art instructors to join our kids’ art education programming. We are looking for talented individuals to work as independent contractors within our organization who can inspire and engage students of various ages, ranging from age 6 to 17.
We encourage instructors to specify their areas of expertise, including a preferred age range and art mediums in which they are proficient. Instructors who are flexible and comfortable teaching across a broad age range and a variety of mediums are highly encouraged to apply.
Our kids’ art classes can vary in topic, medium, and format, offering instructors the opportunity to teach in-person at OSA, on-location in schools, or online. We are seeking instructors for both after-school hours and in-school hours during the week, and we can also accommodate weekend programming if requested. Please indicate your availability in your application.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience teaching art to young students, with a preference for experience with Portland Public Schools
- Education: A degree in Education is preferred
- Mediums: Expertise in a variety of art mediums, including but not limited to: painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art
- Diversity and Inclusion: Experience working with individuals with disabilities and experience implementing DEI practices is desirable. BIPOC, multilingual individuals, and those who are already actively engaged in Title 1 schools are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and teach engaging and age-appropriate art classes
- Encourage creativity, exploration, and self-expression in students
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Assist with classroom management and organization
- Follow security guidelines and ensure student safety
