Community Programs Manager

The Community Programs Manager oversees PYP’s free and low-cost community programs and assists the organization in efforts to build and maintain relationships with public and private school music teachers. Duties include managing and coordinating PYP’s community programs, research and maintenance of contact lists, initiating and facilitating two-way communication, and promoting PYP’s community programs to schools. The CPM also advocates and assists others in advocating for school music education. When time is available, the CPM may also write program notes, blog posts, or extended study guides on Schnitzer Series concert topics.

PRIMARY TASKS and AREAS of RESPONSIBILITY

  • Program Management: Manage the following programs:
    • Children’s Concerts, including managing front of house and volunteers
    • Family Field Trips, including attending concerts with the guest teachers, musicians, and parents, assisting as needed
    • Conductor Visits
    • Peer Mentor
    • Middle School Coaching Project
      • Hire coaches
      • Communicate with participating school teachers and administrators
      • Evaluate program progress
    • Double Bass Class
    • Maintain private teacher list published on PYP’s website
    • Other programs as needed
  • Communication:
    • Maintain contact information for music teachers and principals at regional schools
    • Serve as primary liaison with school music teachers and school administrators as needed
  • Provide assistance to the artistic staff as needed.
  • Represent PYP in the community at music education functions and events, such as annual music education conferences and school district initiatives that involve community organizations.
  • Attend staff meetings, either in person or online as scheduled.
  • Attend Education Committee meetings, either in person or online as scheduled. These may take place in the evenings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Musical Director or Executive Director.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability, superior written and oral communication capabilities
  • Strong competency of Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint and OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams
  • Comfort using databases or customer relationship management software is beneficial
  • Experience in music education and program evaluation is beneficial
  • Ability to read music would be a plus

JOB CONDITIONS

General: The community programs manager can accomplish many of their tasks remotely, but the PYP office is available for use. The workspace is lit with fluorescent lighting and natural lighting.

The community programs manager must attend all concerts that involve community programs, and is strongly encouraged to attend all other PYP concerts as well.

The community programs manager may make occasional program site visits for administrative or evaluation purposes, or for building relationships with teachers, which may take place in the evenings or on weekends.

Equipment Used: PYP will provide a laptop computer. The community programs manager occasionally uses a copy machine and printer, as well as other office tools.

Physical Demands: This position requires extended periods of remaining in a stationary position, such as sitting and standing, at meetings, concerts, or other events. Some concentrated data entry using a computer is required. Phone use is intermittent and usually not for prolonged periods of the workday.

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Hourly rate: $25
  • 401k: PYP annually contributes to this staff member’s 401k account, currently at 3% of their annual salary. Employee may make additional contributions as payroll deductions.
