Urban Canvas of Portland – Art Exhibition

Deadline July 28, 2025

In the heart of Portland, a city shaped by forests and freeways, rivers and rising skylines, our exhibition: Urban Canvas of Portland brings together two powerful voices: Soulaimen Aboubacar and Joy Kolman. Their works explore the evolving dialogue between humanity, community, and nature within the urban landscape.

Soulaimen Aboubacar’s Faces of the City delves into the psychological and spiritual imprint of modern metropolises. His haunting portraits emerge from futuristic cityscapes where neon reflections blur the boundaries between human and machine. These faces—marked by yearning, defiance, and ambiguity—invite us to confront the tension between hyperconnectivity and solitude. In his vision, the city is not merely a setting but a sentient force: a digital organism shaping our identities, challenging our empathy, and redefining what it means to be human.

In contrast, Joy Kloman offers a quiet resistance. Her origami-inspired paintings provide a serene counterpoint—an imaginative fusion of nature and architecture. Delicate folds of paper give birth to animals and symbols that evoke luck, longevity, and peace. For Joy, Portland becomes a metaphor for coexistence: a place where people, ideas, and ecosystems are intricately folded into one another. Her art serves as a visual meditation, encouraging viewers to pause, breathe, and rediscover harmony amid the rush of modern life.

Together, these artists create a compelling duality—the digital pulse and the organic whisper, the electric night and the folded morning. Urban Canvas of Portland asks: as our cities evolve, how do we remain human? Where do we find sanctuary? And how can we design futures that honor both innovation and introspection?
