Requesting Art from the Public Art Collection

A Guide for City of Portland and Multnomah County Employees

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) manages the public art collections for both the City of Portland and Multnomah County. This includes maintaining inventories, coordinating installations, removals, and relocations, and ensuring the collection remains accessible and well-preserved.

RACC’s Public Art Team is happy to help you select meaningful artwork for your space. While we welcome your preferences, selections are limited to available artwork currently in storage. We’ll work with you to find pieces that best fit your location.

How to Request Art

To begin, please complete the appropriate questionnaire using the buttons on this page:

  • City of Portland employees: Select the City option.
  • Multnomah County employees: Select the County option.

Important Details

  • New artwork requests typically take 4–6 weeks to complete.
  • Removals or facility-related requests require at least 2 weeks’ notice.
  • The process begins with a brief walkthrough of your space to assess suitable locations.

Artwork Placement Guidelines

Artwork is generally installed in:

  • Publicly accessible areas
  • Elected officials’ offices (limited to 1–2 pieces per office)

We are unable to accommodate artwork in:

  • Personal offices of non-elected staff
  • Spaces with direct sunlight, high moisture, or other damaging conditions
  • Break rooms, kitchens, or other areas not accessible to the public

Loan Terms

Artworks are typically loaned for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years, providing ample time to enjoy each piece.

Once potential locations and artwork quantities are determined:

  1. We’ll provide a curated selection for your review.
  2. After you make your final choices, we’ll schedule the installation.
  3. RACC art handlers will install the work using secure hardware, and labels will be placed next to each piece.
  4. A loan agreement listing all installed artworks will be sent for your signature.
